The 2019 World Series of Poker Europe is less than a month and a half away. Even with the start of the festival so close, the WSOP is still tinkering with the schedule. Over the weekend, it was announced that five new events have been added to the October lineup, bringing the total number of events to fifteen. The WSOP Europe begins October 13th and will run through November 4th at King’s Resort in Rozvadov, Czech Republic.
Leon Tsoukernik, owner of King’s Resort, said of the changes:
We heard the feedback and are happy to add some mixed games and some bigger buy-in tournaments in order to encourage more players to make the trip. After hosting some big events here at King’s recently, players insisted to me they would come back to WSOP Europe if we added a few additional tournaments. So, we have now done so and we look forward to welcoming them with this revised WSOP Europe schedule in October.

Poker Tournament Europe Schedule 2018
Now, I don’t know so much about the need for more big buy-in events; my friend, Earl Burton, had something to say about those types of tournaments recently. But if the WSOP thinks more people will show up because of their addition, so be it.

The new tournaments are as follows:
Event #4: €250,000 Super High Roller No-Limit Hold’em
Event #5: €2,500 Eight Game Mix
Event #6: €25,500 SHORT DECK No-Limit Hold’em
Event #10: €25,500 Mixed Games Championship
Event #13: €2,500 SHORT DECK No-Limit Hold’em
The “short deck” games were new to the WSOP in Las Vegas this year. Also known as “6+ Hold’em,” short deck hold’em is a game in which all cards less than six are removed from the deck. The Ace remains and can play as high or low. Because of the new deck structure, hand rankings change. In short deck, a Flush is stronger than a Full House. A Straight is often pushed lower than Three-of-a-Kind in this type of game, but at the WSOP, those two hands stay in their usual places.
“Coming off the success of the 50th Annual World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, we took another look at the initial WSOPE schedule and felt we could enhance it,” said WSOP Vice President Jack Effel in the new schedule announcement. “Leon and his team have been great partners for WSOP Europe and while the dates of the 2019 event haven’t changed, we were able to find some room to add some exciting new events that will drive bigger prize pools and keep players busy.”
Prize pool guarantees are not typically a thing at the World Series of Poker, but the WSOP Europe is different, as its tournaments feature more than €22 million in guarantees.
